Geoscience refers to the study of planet earth, including features on the earth’s surface, and those below it. In the oil and gas industry, geoscientists play a number of roles; however, they are most notably involved in the finding of oil and gas reservoirs beneath the earth’s surface. They are also involved in mapping underground rock formations, logging and analysing data, and collecting and testing samples. Geophysicists, petrophysicists, geochemists, geotechnical engineers, and geologists all fall into the geoscience field.
